Continuous Reporting

Continuous reporting is the process whereby teachers throughout the year provide timely and targeted feedback to students and parents regarding their learning progress in each subject.

This information is located on Compass, under Learning Tasks and it is the expectation that students and parents are regularly logging in to monitor progress.

To understand how continuous reporting works, you first need to understand that there are different types of learning tasks that are uploaded to Compass.

  • Common Assessment Task (CAT).
    • A summative high stakes assessment, completed by all students in Years 7-10.
  • School Assessed Coursework (SAC).
    • A summative high stakes assessment, completed by all students in VCE (Years 11 and 12).
  • School Assessed Task (SAT).
    • A summative high stakes assessment, completed by all students over a period of time (for example, a woodwork piece in technology). This applies to all year levels 7-12
  • Proficiency Scales (Years 7-10).
    • Each Essential Learning that students need to learn has a Proficiency Scale. This enables students and staff to visualise the level of performance necessary to demonstrate Proficiency at each required level. Assessment completed at the beginning of each unit of work allows a teacher to place a student at a particular level on the Proficiency Scale. Throughout the unit, ongoing assessment should ideally show students moving up the ladder on each Proficiency Scale (levels 1,2, 3 and 4)
  • Outcomes (Bridging and VCAL only)
    Each outcome is an essential learning that a student will need to demonstrate competency in.
    Teachers will provide feedback to students on the above summative tasks that occur in their subject area. Feedback provided will include a combination of:
  • Performance against the criteria, displayed in a rubric
  • Comments on their achievement (if a rubric is not available)
  • Grades obtained for the task
    • Excluded, Not Submitted, At Risk, Below Standard, At Standard, Above Standard (Years 7-10)
    • Competent or Not Yet Competent (Bridging and VCAL students only)
    • Percentage, letter grade and Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory (Year 11 VCE)
    • Percentage and Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory (Year 12 VCE)
Staff will be providing this feedback within 2 weeks of the assessment being due.
